Cupar was born in Belfast and worked for many years as a Graphic Artist in printing and newspaper advertising.

His first love has always been to paint landscape in oils, acrylics and mixed media.

In recent years the human figure has tended to dominate, so much so that the landscape has become secondary to the foreground human subject matter.

Humour and stories linked to local past scenes and personal memories, along with a certain naivety of style is a hallmark of Cupar’s work.

He exhibits in several galleries and exhibitions around Northern Ireland, and has exhibited in the past successfully in the open exhibitions of the Royal Ulster Academy annual shows.

His work is represented in various private collections throughout Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.
