If you ever find yourself in an independently-owned coffee shop, the chances are you will be sitting among local artists; canvases and framed prints mounted on the walls as you sip your cappuccinos.

It’s a common theme to see, local places tend to support local talent, especially when it comes to artwork and photography. Here we give you an overview of some of our top featured Artists and favourite pieces oft their work.

Donal McNaughton

Our Featured Artist this month on the website Donal, is a self-taught artist who focuses on real-life landscapes of the Glens of Antrim and the people who live and work there. His work is a historic view of the Antrim countryside, showing traditional depictions in oil paintings.

Our favourite piece is A Glens Riverside Homestead, showing the Slemish Mountain in the background. Original print available Oil On Canvas

J P Rooney

A best-selling artist, catching the hearts of Irish art lovers with his Abstract pieces.  J P Rooney is a renowned artist for depicting dark and dramatic sides to Irish life. He has a unique technique in focusing on human relationships combined with the backdrop of Irish scenery.

Connor Maguire

Award Winning Belfast-born Artist, Connor focuses on contemporary oil-based paintings some of which have now been made available as a limited edition and accessible to the public in greetings cards and giclee prints.

His work over the years has gained him the title of youngest member to be granted the membership to the Ulster Watercolor Society.

Sam McLarnon 

If you love coastal escapes, you will love Sam McLarnon’s wide variety of landscape watercolour artwork. Sam was an avid painter, painting everyday until his sad passing in March 2012.  Sam’s work focused wholly on the Northern Irish coastlines and has managed to capture the hearts of three generations of art collectors.

At Ireland Art we are pleased to still be able to feature his paintings in our gallery with a wide range of prints available for purchase. Including this beautiful depiction of Mussenden and Downhill.

Michelle Carlin

A North Antrim based artist who paints the innocent scenes of childhood life in Northern Ireland.  Like many of our collection of artists, Michelle is an award-winning artist and her work is highly sought after, she is an elected member of the Ulster Watercolour Society.

Her Beach Trio print is an exceptional impression of childhood memories at the seaside, spending time with siblings.

Marie Carroll

An Abstract artist that has drawn inspiration from the Irish architecture and landscapes. Marie Carroll is known for her use of colour and control of light in her work, after learning these skills and techniques at Goldsmiths College of Art.

Our favourite piece is Dublin’s Pennygate Bridge; an Oil On Card print that captures a great sky and river reflection through abstract art.

Howes

Fall in love with the North Antrim coast with Howe’s impression of scenic views from Mussenden Temple to Fair Head. Born in the area, Howe’s captures traditional sunsets at the country’s most idyllic beaches.

Traditional work focuses on similar colouring, offering a great impression of the different lives exploring each area. A favourite print is Gazing into the Sunset, available to purchase on IrelandArt.com.

Hugh McIllfatrick 

Ballymoney born Hugh was a highly popular artist that was known for his oil and water colour depictions of the famous Antrim Coastlines. At Ireland Art we are pleased to feature his stunning work and have them available for purchase, so no matter where you are in the world, you can have a piece of the calming coastline in your home.

Our favourite work is Summer in Donegal, a traditional piece showing people enjoying the water under the cliffs and mountains of Donegal.

Kenlito 

Belfast born artist Kenlito is known for his colourist and celebrant of local life through his artwork which is evident through his Portstewart Dock of the Bay print, a contemporary piece highlighting the colourful harbour and the promenade resting in the background.
